A non-governmental organization, Friends — known as Mith Samlanh in Cambodian — was founded in 1994 by Sébastien Marot, Barbara Adams and Mark Turgesen. The organization’s purpose is to take in homeless children, offering them a place of transition where they can benefit from numerous resources in order to make a life for themselves. The organization provides the young people with education, notably emphasizing increased awareness of diseases such as AIDS.
The ultimate objective of Friends is to help underprivileged youth become productive and independent members of society. The organization focuses on developing their abilities rather than keeping them reliant on charity. Originally based in Phnom Penh, the organization offers services in line with their reality such as medical care, skills training, cultural activities and basic education.
