Hans Krock is Professor Emeritus of Engineering Oceanography at the University of Hawaii-Manoa, director of OCEES (Ocean Engineering and Energy Systems International) and an ocean engineering researcher. Some of his research focuses on ocean thermal energy conversion, an approach that has been proven in theory, but remains to be put into practice on a large scale.

During the 1970s, in the midst of the 1973 oil crisis, Americans invested heavily in finding energy systems that could replace oil. Hans Krock was asked to find ways to put the thermal energy of the oceans to use. Along with other researchers, he developed a feasible system, but the required infrastructure was considered too expensive. Since then, he has continued to devote his efforts to developing and promoting this form of energy.
