Problem / Poverty in Vancouver
Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside is one of the oldest areas in the city but it is also one of the poorest areas in the world. An estimated 15,000 homeless, alcoholics, drug addicts, prostitutes and mentally ill people regularly wander the streets.
In this hostile environment afflicted with record HIV rates, many people lack the means to feed themselves properly. As a result, they turn to begging or depend on the various food banks on a daily basis.
