Problem / Food Insecurity

Ironically, although tonnes of food in Quebec are wasted every day, many people still go hungry. In some regions, food insecurity affects one in ten people. Nearly half of social welfare recipients are poorly nourished.

In Quebec, food insecurity is often a taboo subject. However, over 155,500 Quebecers rely on food banks each month. Poor income, unemployment, single parenthood, no qualifications, or psychological problems: there are countless causes of hunger and the food banks struggle to meet the demand.
